Looking at the past and how we have arrived to what we are today, may certainly be called a success. Our initial operation of international freight forwarding was established under the name of Air Express Consolidators (AEC) in 1979, at which time private organizations had put forward their revolution to the national chamber of commerce and government concerns. AEC soon found its berth as a recognized organization and by the end of 1985 many foreign principals had opted with us. It was at this stage that Hecny Transportation Hongkong ( who was a prime player in air freight forwarding and charters alliance with AEC) established Hecny Transportation (Pte) Limited in Sri Lanka. This was followed by the setting up of Hecny Freight India (Pvt) Limited in India, Hecny Transport Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd in Pakistan, Hecny Transportation Bangladesh and Challenger International Cargo (CIC) in Dubai.
Dubai was incorporated and run independently. Like today at that time Dubai was the main gateway for Air / Sea & Sea / Air transshipments and we capitalized this facility with the presence of CIC. In Dubai CIC has the added advantage of having the GSA for American Airlines. Therefore, CIC continued to represent Hecny interest by its neutral name while all monitoring work was done from the regional office in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
In 1990 an offshore company under the name Hecny South West Asia Limited was registered in the British Virgin Islands for conducting the affairs of management/accounting and promoting sales for branch offices within the South West Asia Region. Our authorized capital was US Dollars One Million.
The prime commodities handled by us has been garments including GOH (Garments on Hangers), electronic items, toys, engineering equipment. We have also provided value added services in transporting perishables including Tuna fish to Japan.
The average tonnage in 1980 from our region exceeded over 1 million kilos and in 1998 our tonnage exceeded 4.5 million kilos.
We have air freight imports of 2 million kilos to our region and they are mainly from Europe, USA and the Far East.
In 1995 the ocean freight demands from our immense customer base made us to cater and strengthen our expertise in ocean freight forwarding. The annual volume of inbound ocean freight exceeds 2000 TEUs and outbound 1000 TEUs. Inbound LCL is 9000 CBM and outbound LCL is around 8000 CBM. Our net profits have exceeded US$1.2 Million per annum for the last three consecutive years.
Today, in a rapidly changing and complex world, we are confident and ready to meet with the challenges of the new millennium and to serve our most valued customers under our new name change to HTL Logistics (Pvt) Ltd. Furthermore, our commitment to our clients and the integration of personalized professional services and emerging technologies will continue to set us apart.
The only assets more precious than our hard earned reputation will always be our human resources. We therefore stand along side with our Mission Statement which spells out our priorities.
